Aphelion, invading my Garden of Dreams

posted by Homeslice, at: 21:38:23, Sunday 27th April 2008

No, we're not finished. At least one of us is still carrying us on....and it ain't me because I've been so frickin' lazy, and for that I do apologize. But I've not forgotten anyone, and you'll hear from me again.

No, our resident tireless workhorse - if I can use such a term - is our pal Virgo47, who brings two more UT3 levels to cleanse our graphics-craving palates. One's got a pretty nice view to it while the other....well, what is there to view? Only Virgo knows.

The Future of Insite

posted by T2A`, at: 19:02:47, Monday 14th April 2008

Any readers of BuF should be aware that I do not enjoy UT3 and never enjoyed it at any period over the months I had it installed. I kept hoping Epic would patch it up quickly and its issues would subside and the game would be great fun, but that never happened. I recently uninstalled the game and unless Epic can fix it up I will not reinstall.

So, let's get to the point: I am resigning from Insite. It's been a good four years but there is, in my opinion, too much wrong with UT3 for me to continue. I really miss the old days of UT2004's popularity, both on the servers and here at Insite. How can I continue reviewing for a game I do not enjoy, right?

As for Insite, she's not going anywhere. In theory. Homeslice has all the admin powers necessary to keep the site running as it always has. If he's up for the job then Insite is fine. If not then it is inevitable that the site will slowly grind to a halt. If you find this message still at the top of the news queue in a few weeks then suspect the worst.

It's been fun but it's time for me to go. If you want to help out by becoming a reviewer, feel free to click the "Join Us" link to the right.

Rell, let's not get Sargass-tic here...

posted by Homeslice, at: 16:22:07, Friday 28th March 2008

...wow, that one turned out worse than I had hoped.

Two more for you guys today! One CTF and one DM (of the 1on1 class), both with nice atmosphere but gameplay that didn't quite catch on. And looky here! They both were made for UT2004! It's a game that, in this day and age, is considered ancient. But if you still have the game, you oughtta give these two a spin.

Another one-man pack!

posted by Homeslice, at: 09:07:46, Friday 21st March 2008

....well, kinda. Someone decided to send us a flood of maps all at once and well, we thought, kinda like we did a couple years back, why not put them all into one review?? And so we did. The ever-fearless T to the 2 to the A (....to the `) decided to give this cavalry of similarly-themed maps a spin. These maps show us that there is still life in UT2004, and rightfully so. The end result? Read the review.

Low-Poly Treasures!

posted by Homeslice, at: 02:32:30, Saturday 15th March 2008

You didn't honestly think we'd be left out of the UT3 Low-Poly festivities, did you? And seriously, if you didn't get this pack yet, (a) gad, I pity you, and (b) our trusty all-in-one review will further tell you why it's so worth it...and with many big names contributing their mad mapping skills to this project, how can you say no?

Also, T2A` got our RSS feed back in working condition (hopefully). Click the orange button on your address bar to subscribe, or manually add this to your live bookmarks.

Pure and Razer-Sharp

posted by Homeslice, at: 00:04:35, Sunday 9th March 2008

Two more UT3 maps get the royal Insite treatment today. One shows us that taking the easy way out on a very hard map editor isn't always the best way. The other shows that combining atmosphere with gameplay will always show others that you know your way around the editor. Take it from someone like me who has yet to learn the frickin' editor....but enough rambling.

A couple more, with tricky names yet again (as in, still no pun ready)....

posted by Homeslice, at: 15:25:03, Saturday 1st March 2008

Seriously, the names are getting that complex, not that I'm complaining; because who wants a generic title? But down to business: nothing much in common with today's pair of maps, except that you'd probably need a good rig to run both. Yes, both. I mean, the aging UT99 still has great maps to offer, primarily because detail plays a bigger role than ever before. And when it does, your rig must be ready for it. That being said....
